Next to the gas fireplace, the electric fireplace is the other favorite alternative to chopping and hauling wood. The electric fireplace comes in many styles and types. The most basic option doesn't produce a real flame, although the fake log set does glow and give the appearance of burning embers and wood. They simply plug into an electric wall outlet and you have instant heat. The log set insert can be obtained with or without a heating element. It is possible to buy the fake lot set seperately.

If necessary you can get an electric fireplace that is as moveable as your sofa. Others are more of a built in unit that is stationary. You can see that you have a wide range of options here.

Homeowners love electric fireplaces because they can be installed into existing fireplace hearths or taken with them depending on the model they choose. Believe it or not, there are even models that are hung on the wall!

These units work by responding to a thermostat on the opposite side of the room, much like your furnace does. Many models produce enough heat to warm more than one room, or enough to overwhelm you in the existing room if the thermostat is set too high.
