Fake Fireplace
How would you define a fake fireplace? When you search for one
what are you looking for?
There are actually many ways to do a fake fireplace. I've seen
everything from cardboard cutouts to electric units or gas generated
flames. Some of them have actual flames, others are just whisps of
fabric blown by a fan. Many people would consider a gas fireplace
to be fake just because it doesn't burn wood. Others would say
that's completely legitimate because there is a real flame.
There's something to be said for a real wood burning fireplace;
like the effort you must go to for cutting wood (or buying it
pre-cut), scooping out the ashes, lighting the fire with newspaper
that leaves burned paper ash all over your yard, and making sure
the embers die out before you go to bed lest there be a fire
burning down your house.
I grew up with real wood burning fireplaces in every home. My
parents recently built their own home and put in a gas flame fireplace. I guess the work we
went to all those years ago is better for the younger crowd. It
would make sense that the older generations would prefer gas,
though younger people do, too. It's pretty awesome how you can get
a beautiful heat producing fire with the touch of a button, flame
height controlled by a dial.
The fake fireplace has the convenience of mobility, easy
installation, quick start (plug it in and you've got heat). They
often produce just as much, if not more, heat than a standard
fireplace.
